What the KDK 2-year motor warranty covers, in plain terms

What is and is not covered by the KDK motor warranty in Sri Lanka, why voltage fluctuation matters, and how to claim.

Every genuine KDK fan we supply carries a manufacturer warranty on the motor. It is a real warranty, honoured here in Colombo by our own service team rather than by sending the fan abroad. It is worth understanding what it does and does not cover before you need it.

What is covered

The warranty covers defects in the motor - the part that should not fail. If a motor develops a fault in normal domestic or commercial use within the warranty period, we repair or replace it.

What is not covered

Three exclusions account for almost every declined claim we see:

  • Voltage fluctuation and lightning. This is the big one in Sri Lanka. A motor that has been cooked by a surge shows it, and surge damage is not a manufacturing defect.
  • Incorrect installation. A fan hung from an inadequate fixing, wired to the wrong supply, or fitted with a non-KDK regulator will fail in ways the warranty does not cover.
  • Misuse and physical damage. Bent blades, water ingress on an indoor fan, a unit run with the bearings dry of anything KDK specified.

Protecting the motor is cheaper than claiming

If your supply is unstable - and in many parts of the island it is - a voltage stabiliser or surge protection on the circuit costs far less than a motor. This is particularly true for DC models such as the H56DV, where the electronics are more sensitive than a simple AC induction motor.

Use the regulator supplied or specified for the fan. Aftermarket speed controllers are a common cause of motor heating.

Installation is part of the warranty

We say this to every customer buying a ceiling fan: have it installed by someone competent. A ceiling fan is a rotating mass fixed above people's heads. The mounting has to go into the slab or a proper hook, not into a ceiling board.

If you would like us to arrange installation, ask when you order.

Making a claim

Keep your invoice. It is the proof of purchase and of the warranty start date - which is another reason to buy from an authorised distributor rather than a grey-market seller who cannot register the warranty at all.

If a fan fails, call +94 11 250 0823 or email shoponline@eliteradio.com with the model, the invoice number and a description of the fault. We will tell you whether to bring it in or whether we come to you.

Why buying genuine matters here

KDK fans are copied. A counterfeit looks similar, costs less, and has no warranty because there is no manufacturer standing behind it. Elite Radio has been the authorised KDK distributor in Sri Lanka since 1960. Every fan we sell is genuine KDK stock, and our service department has been repairing them for six decades.
